Established in 1819, the John Laird Cemetery is a burial ground in Waco, Tennessee. Lost over the years to cattle farming and nature’s reclamation, it was rediscovered in 1984 by the descendants of those buried there.
In 2004, the John Laird Cemetery Association was founded in order to restore and preserve this slice of Tennessee history. In the years since, descendants have enacted an original, 19th-century deed to the land, effectively reserving the cemetery for its maintenance and preservation.
The John Laird Cemetery Association is a 501(c)(13). It is through the generosity of our community that we explore the lives and legacies of the people buried here and protect this peaceful oasis atop one of Tennessee’s endless, rolling green hills.
